Gland, Switzerland – Apart from the political field trying to champion the climate change issue, the increasing numbers of innovative entrepreneurs are also on the urge of working on climate innovation.
Companies which succeed with their technologies were announced by WWF under its Climate Solvers program, acquiring both, opportunity for business and to fight against climate change.
Climate innovations do not specifically only involve mitigation activities. Infrastructures that are able to provide renewables energy access solutions can also be included within the climate innovations endeavour.
Climate innovations are usually associated with mitigation activities however, infrastructures that are capable of providing renewables and anergy access solutions are also considered as climate change innovation.
The WWF’s Climate Solvers programme has already recognised top climate innovations in key countries. While innovation work has emerged and implemented in Sweden for the past five years, it has been an widespread method which has expanded to the Europe region as well as Eastern Asia. India making its step by announcing their initial selection of Climate Solver entrepreneurs in early 2013.

By 2015, the clean tech sector is expected to rival the oil and gas equipment market, when the forecasted market size will be between €240 and 290 billion, says Samantha Smith, WWF’s Global Climate and Energy Initiative leader.”

Climate innovation provides a broad range of opportunities such business opportunity and poverty alleviation. It is also about avoiding wastage and job generation which will radically reduce climate impact towards a better state within our society”, says WWF’s Innovations programme manager Stefan Henningsson.
He added “From a high-fossil-fuel economy to a clean renewable energy economy requires a whole new of solution and services which will radically reduce climate impact. There are multiples of solutions for such impact desired, however the question is how to employ them at speed and scale, globally.”
Policy makers would be able to make decisions in increasing ambition on reducing cuts so that innovations can grow and people could have decent jobs if innovations are good business, says Henningsson. Those who are playing a key role should take a proactive step in commercialising climate positive solutions presented by entrepreneurs.
